Work Out for a Better Sex Life

Working in the store the other day, a group of moms came in with many questions. Each of them had very individual needs and they were all very eager to learn. I found that with each and every one I came back to a conversation about Kegel exercises and the importance of having a healthy and strong PC (pubococcygeous) muscle. I know that many moms have already been told about these muscles and the role they play in child birth, but there is so much more…

- Strong PC muscles can lead to stronger orgasm
- Shorter refractory period – time between ejaculations for male-bodied folks
- Fewer aches and pains in the lower back
- Less painful menstrual cramps
- Better Posture
- Exercising them keeps circulation going allowing for healthier muscles.
- General Health – 50% of gynecologist visits are for bladder and vaginal infections. Many of these could be from weak or tense PC muscles.

It is a common misconception that these exercises are just a tightening motion; however, it is important to do equal amounts of contracting and relaxing. The PC muscle makes a figure eight around the vaginal and anal opening and you can work either the front or the back or both at the same time. Here are some good exercises to try:
- The Catch and Release: Inhale and clench at the same time. Hold your breath and clench the muscles for a few seconds, then release both muscles and breath.
- The Flutter: Contract and release your PC muscle ten times in a row. Rest a few seconds and repeat.
- The Plumber: Inhale and contract both your vaginal and anal PC muscles as if you were pulling in water. Hold, and on your next inhale, contract more, as if your were pulling the water in deeper and higher. Do this for four or five breaths, release and then push your PC muscle as though you were shooting out the water. Try just the vaginal or anal part of the muscle for variation.
- Toys: Smartballs are a great addition to every busy moms exercise routine because they can go with you! The Kegelcisor is for the dedicated exerciser and will give you the results of PC muscles of steel.
