Babeland Bag Makes Great Lunch Sack

Babeland's Pink Bag

Recently a mom posted on our Facebook page that she packed her young daughter’s school lunch in one of Babeland’s pink bags (note: the bag does not say sex toys on it anywhere). I loved this post so much because this mom:

a) knew her daughter loved pink (and it doesn’t get much pinker or cuter than that bag) and

b) was not afraid a parent or teacher would recognize the brand and think less of her. (I’m hoping she thought they might even admire her if they knew.)

Since becoming a parent, I have noticed that my sex-positive freak flag doesn’t fly quite as boldly as it once did. For years I would answer honestly when someone asked me what I did for a living. Once I had kids and moved to a small town, I toned it way down. I wanted my kids to get invited to play dates, and to adjust to their new lives (where the 20 kids they knew in school would be the only peers they’d have till they left this town). I didn’t want to risk that some adult’s pre-conceived notions of what selling sex toys said about me as a person or a parent to get in the way of that.

Then one day I was “outed” at a networking event for authors, where the local bookstore owner recognized my name from my book, Sexy Mamas. She (also a parent) was excited and invited me to host a sexy moms event at her store. I accepted and soon found myself answering questions about loss of desire, sex and pregnancy, and planned sex dates in front of about 40 local moms, all of who accepted me with welcoming and appreciative arms.

Sure, I still experience what may be the “all in my head” syndrome where I blame every social snub to myself or my kids on my career, but hey, it’s better than blaming it on our personalities! And since “coming out” in my small town as a sex toy marketing director, I have been approached by grandmas, baseball coaches, tourists, and moms and dads both, all looking for sex toys, which I gladly deliver in that lovely pink bag.

It does say “sex toys for a passionate world” on the inside of the bag, my daughter pointed out. One of those delightful moments, where shrugging it off is the best tactic.
