Get Out and Vote: Babeland’s Got Your Silver Bullet!

Forgive this post for being California-based, but you may have encountered this own issue in the campaigns in your area. Two of our candidates, both high-powered business execs–Carly Fiorina (running for Senate) and Meg Whitman (running for governor) have spotty voting records.

I don’t know about you, but in high school we couldn’t wait to get old enough to vote (ok, and drink); our teachers and parents raised us on the belief that we had a civic duty to participate in our democratic process. It’s mind-boggling for me to see candidates running for office who have voting gaps as wide as the Grand Canyon. Of course, I can’t help but think if either of these women had known about Babeland’s Get out and Vote offer, they’d have found a way to get to that polling place. Who could resist a Free Babeland Silver Bullet? It may or may not help jumpstart the economy, but it will definitely jumpstart your mood! Here are the details:

Urban Outfitters Cancels Condoms

After a brief kerfuffle with crazed anti-choice activists, Urban Outfitters quickly pulled Planned Parenthood’s Proper Attire condoms from their online shelves. An alternative version to the story that UA caved to pressure from right wing nuts is that progressives cried foul to see Planned Parenthood (through Proper Attire) partner with Urban Outfitters, which was founded and is helmed by a prominent anti-gay rights big money republican donor.

Either way, the fact is that one form of access to high quality condoms by UA’s 18-30 y.o. target market just got shut down. Proper Attire (you can buy them from Babeland) is an attempt to make condoms fashionable, and to my mind, Urban Outfitters is a perfect partner. Not everyone wants a condom from a bowl at the health center, and if a gloss of style makes it sexier, bravo. Read the full post »

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, Tomboy

Apparently Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the biological baby of uber-good looking couple Brand and Angelina is a full throttle tomboy. Recent stories have covered her demands for a short haircut, her pleasure in a good pair of boots, her preference for swords over princess-wear, and her choice of boy’s swim trunks.

Fortunately for Shiloh, Angelina is letting her express herself. “It’s not my choice. I have a very strong-willed four-year-old girl, who tells me what she wants to wear and I let her be who she is,” said Angelina Jolie to US Magazine. As Jezebel points out, the gossip mags (and blogs) have not all been kind to Angelina about this. Read the full post »

Katy Perry is Too Scandalous for Elmo

Katy Perry manages to offend my ears more than my eyes but apparently the low-cut dress she wore in her duet with Elmo on Sesame Street offended enough parents that the clip was pulled before it aired on the show (it ran on You Tube). Her outfit has a flesh colored top that goes to her neck but appears to be low cut and boob-licious, which didn’t sit well with the parents of the 1-6-year-olds for whom the show is intended. Christine O’Donnell, Cable News and Me

Christine O’Donnell, Republican nominee for senator from Delaware had a past life as a sex un-educator!
I watched a little of the primary returns on cable news channels that night, and you would have thought a finger puppet had won the republican primary in Delaware. I had missed what was so crazy about her win when I tuned in, and I kept waiting for the big reveal. What could it be? Tax fraud? Speaking in tongues? Multiple affairs? What?

Turns out, she said the word masturbation on MTV. That’s all they had on her. I felt a mighty shiver of identification. I am that person who talks about the self-love that ordinarily dare not speak its name. I talk about it all the time, to anyone who will listen. The coverage I watched showed that clip over and over, sneeringly inviting our judgment. How could anyone who talks publicly about masturbation go on to become a senator? Ha! She can’t! Ha! Sexy Celebrity Mom: Maggie Gyllenhaal

Are we not thrilled that Maggie, who revealed the sexy, consensual side of SM in the black comedy Secretary (see a clip below), is now being cast as the lead in a movie about vibrators being used to treat female  “hysteria” in the 19th century? I long to see Maggie swoon with pleasure at the hands of a vintage vibe. The film, called Hysteria, is set to be released in 2011. Read the full post »

Sexy Celebrity Mom: Brooke Shields

Brooke is not on this list because of her modeling or acting career, but because a few years ago she publicly spanked (metaphorically-speaking) Tom Cruise for questioning her use of anti-depressants to treat post-partum depression, thereby raising awareness of this all too real occurrence (13% of women experience depression after birth).  Read the full post »

Taylor Momsen Vibes to Beat of Her Own Drum

Barely17-year-old Taylor Momsen admitted to Disorder magazine that she uses her vibrator to gain pleasure and not a man. This sentence is read by most people as, “16 year old girl owns vibrator thus is evil and villainous.” There are multiple groups that are fighting and arguing the point that this leads to moral depravity and that she is not a role model for young girls. The Kids are Alright

Lisa Cholodenko’s new movie The Kids are Alright tells the story of what happens when the teenage children of a lesbian couple, Nic (Annette Bening) and Jules (Julianne Moore)  seek out and find the man Paul, (Mark Ruffalo) who was their sperm donor. One of the great contrasts in the movie is between the boring “married” sex that the lesbians have, and the much more dynamic and exciting sex that the unencumbered donor enjoys. Some queer bloggers are annoyed about the contrast between the lesbo sex and the straight sex, but to me it’s about LTR sex and shiny new penny sex. Read the full post »

Public Breast Feeding Controversy

Statue of Breastfeeding MomThis week’s hot topic is public breast feeding: when and where is it appropriate…if ever. I agree with Kourtney Kardasian’s positive stance, which can be summed up as “it’s just fine” and “don’t look if you don’t like it”.

Not everyone believes in breast feeding and many do not feel it is appropriate in public. I say to each their own. I do not feel that society should dictate how or when a baby is fed and if a little nipple shows in the process, what is the big deal? Kim points out that her son’s needs are her biggest concern, which pale in comparison to societal expectations that breasts be covered up. Read the full post »
